Jean Nouvel born in Fumel in France in 1945, he frequented the course of Architecture the École des Beaux-Arts in Bordeaux starting from 1964. In 1966, he was admitted to the School of Fine Arts diParigi (ENSBA). After having worked together with Claude Parent, the father of 'oblique function', and taken part in the intellectual movement of the architect Paul Virilio, he founded in 1970, his first studio with François Seigneur.
Since beginnings of his career as architect in the 70s, Jean Nouvel has broken the aesthetics of modernism and post-modernism to create a design language all his own. He focused a great importance in the design of a building that would be in harmony with the environment: using all conventional and non-conventional forms, and presenting it in a manner quite unique and spectacular, Jean Nouvel’s projects transform the landscapes in which they are built often becoming major urban events. He has often taken positions of militancy and was sometimes controversial about the problems and decisions concerning the relationship between architecture and the city. Contrary to the specificity of architecture, in his projects he has used either history, literature, painting, cinema; Nouvel has often compared his role to a director, claiming that: "Architecture exists, like cinema, in a dimension of time and movement. A building should be designed, developed and read in terms of sequences. To erect a building must be provided and seek effects of contrast and connection related to the succession of spaces through which it passes. "Nouvel has won numerous awards for architecture and design, and has received several distinctions for his work. In 1980 he was awarded the Silver Medal of the Académie d'Architecture.
