Robin Platt born in 1962 in Port Elizabeth, graduated from the London College of Furniture and the same year won the New Designer Award thanks to his thesis. Subject of the thesis was an aluminum chair (Gemini Chair) which was later produced in Spain. This initial success fuelled his desire to work as a independent designer. Together with the architect and friend Cairn Young (born in Los Angeles in 1963) they founded a studio in London where, for over fifteen years, they have collaborated and developed their ideas and skillbases. When they decided to "go back to the reality of the big wide world", they chose as starting point Milan. Fortunately for them, Sawaya & Moroni proved to be enthusiastic about their creative energy, producing a series of products designed by them since 1997 Just a silver fruit bowl designed for Sawaya & Moroni, was the beginning of all their subsequent production mainly oriented to the design of dishes and cutlery and every accessory for the table. In 2001, Platt decides to change his life radically and moved with his family in deep rural France in the Pyrenees: although the association with Young has not been dissolved by this time, each of them has begin to design individually. He returned to England in 2005, and opened a studio adjacent to his home in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. The products are developed in the studio and come from two types of instances: the result of customer requests or internal ideas of the study developed and ready to be presented to a potential customer.
